Rorschach : Mammootty’s psychological thriller leaves you with a different taste!!
With heavy buzz surrounding it, Rorschach has hit the screens today. The Nisam Basheer directorial is a highly engaging multi-genre film, that leaves a different taste!! To see Mammootty donning all shades of grey in the film tells you why he is still at the top of the game. The small sarcastic expressions and subtle glances create ripples in crowds. Apart from Mammootty, the performances primarily play it right. The cast including Bindu Panicker, Grace Antony, Sharafudheen, Jagadish, and Kottayam Naseer have delivered credible performances.
Nimish Ravi’s visuals breathe life into the slow narration. The visuals are exquisitely dark and the coloring is quite absorbing. The music and sound design work together to propel the twisted realities of the plot. The genre-defining (or rather genre-bending) happens through the sounds. The crew has taken special care of the sounds and this factor demands a theatre visit to catch up with the Nisam Basheer film.
The film follows the classic David Fincher approach(can’t say which) but manages to throw in surprises from early on. Sameer Abdul’s screenplay show sparks of genre shifts as it approaches its second half. Nothing goes wrong in the film till its final act. The final act, however, is a tad too unsatisfactory. Yes, it’s a psychological thriller and may require a second watch but the climax leaves hardly any effect on the viewer.
Overall, Rorschach is a well-made film. Despite the numbness, the climax offers after all the smartly crafted moments, the film engages from start to end. Mammootty is in the form we love to see him and the technical quality is top-notch. Anyhow, Rorschach deserves a theatrical watch!
